The NH Women's Coalition

During the 2004 Presidential Election, women made up a key bloc of voters and volunteers - ultimately comprising 54% of the vote. To harness the energy Republican women were able to generate for President George W. Bush a coalition was founded called 'W Stands for Women.' After the President's re-election in 2004 that coalition was moved to the RNC where it became "The Pink Elephants" in 2005.

"The Pink Elephants" played an integral role in activating Republican women during the 2006 mid-term election cycle. By motivating women through education, grassroots opportunities, and national momentum building, the coalition was able to increase the number of activated women in 2006 by over 10,000.

In 2007 the GOP faced new challenges with gubernatorial races and select state and special elections. Through constant motivation and ground level person-to-person communication, our teams were able to win two key gubernatorial races as well as many significant special and state elections.

Throughout 2006 and 2007 "The Pink Elephants" Women's Coalition has participated in a monthly conference call program hosted by Jo Ann Davidson, RNC Co-Chair. The Women's Coalition spoke with top GOP leaders and strategists including Chairman Mike Duncan, Sara Taylor, Laura Ingraham, Maria Cino, The Honorable Kay Granger, and The Honorable Margaret Spellings. These monthly check-ins helped women across the country build momentum leading up to the elections in both 2006 and 2007. As members of the "The Pink Elephants" built their 'personal precincts' to help relay our message within their local communities, our coalition grew and began to activate more women across the country.

As we face new campaign challenges in 2008, our coalition continues to grow. Now in its third year, "The Pink Elephants" Women's Coalition will continue monthly coalition conference calls with special guests. In addition to other activities, including deployment and victory programs, the RNC, under the direction of Jo Ann Davidson, has developed a series of Women's Regional Leadership Conferences. They will be continued for the third year in several regions of the country.

Joining The NH Women's Coalition is the best way for Republican women to stay involved in RNC activities. Becoming a member grants you access to RNC updates, conference calls, educational opportunities, and exciting special events. First Congressional Candidates Debate

Dover City Hall will be the site of the very first debate between Republican candidates, Former Congressman Jeb Bradley and former NH HHS Commissioner John Stephen.

The candidates contesting for the first congressional district seat in Washington were all invited to participate in the debate on Friday, June 20th at 7pm at the City Hall auditorium in Dover, however, Congressman Shea-Porter declined our invitation.

We are very excited that the Strafford County Republican Committee will host the very first debate between Jeb Bradley and John Stephen. These are two exceptionally well-qualified candidates and we look forward to hearing what they have to say. This is a great way for our committee to provide an opportunity for the public to hear from our candidates and to see that we are actively involved in spreading our Republican message.

We are pleased that the debate will be hosted by Scott Spradling, formerly the Channel 9 political news director at WMUR-TV in Manchester. There will be an opportunity for audience participation in the form of written questions.

Please come and bring others to support this county committee activity. It will be a great place for all our delegates, candidates, and activists to meet voters and begin to recruit campaign workers and supporters.

Phyllis Woods, Chairman
Strafford County Republican Committee
